Enough, Already. Save a Great Newspaper, Please
I don't feel sorry for bloated old media, but the loss of the San Francisco Chronicle would be a serious blow to reporting and locally based news journalism—which is in danger of disappearing. But its owner, the Hearst Corporation, is threatening to shut the giant pulp machine down if they don't find a buyer or it doesn't stop losing money. The latter is unlikely, given the paper's $50 million loss last year and worse numbers projected in 2009. Read more here.
